Touring Performances

For this Halloween, Barrel of Monkeys played at the Chicago Cultural Center’s Hallowed Halls Halloween celebration!  On Saturday morning, Barrel of Monkeys worked with about 40 kids in costume in a writing workshop and performance.

A group of Fairytale Characters and Creatures wrote and performed a story about two fairytales!  In one, everything was splendid.  In the other, a dragon and dwarf crushed the princesses and ate the kings.  A cat with good reflexes, a Monkey King, and The Grand Master save the day.  For now…

The Superheroes wrote and performed a story about overcoming a mass of bad guys, which included the dreaded Bowser!  The story concluded with a well deserved celebration with pizza, hot chips, and pop.

(Mario and Luigi have come across Bowser before!)

The Monsters and Witches wrote and performed a story about a haunted house with a ton of ambushes, but at the end, at the snap of a finger, everything was turned back to normal.

(So many scary kids!)

The afternoon concluded with a performance of “That’s Weird, Grandma” to a crowd of more than 300 families!

What a great way to spend Halloween.

That's Weird Grandma Touring Performances

The Monkeys have been intensely rehearsing over the past few weeks to bring you a very special “That’s Weird, Grandma.” “Fun O’Clock: A Very Special That’s Weird, Grandma” starts TONIGHT! It’s bigger, louder, and special-er than any “That’s Weird, Grandma” ever performed!

See you at FUN O’CLOCK! (See what I did there?)

Presenting “Fun O’Clock: A Very Special That’s Weird, Grandma”

That's Weird Grandma Touring Performances

For the first time since 2006, Barrel of Monkeys will be performing at Theater On The Lake, July 22-26!

“Fun O’Clock: A Very Special That’s Weird, Grandma” collects some of our favorite stories from our almost 12-year (!) history. You’ll see some TWG hits from the past couple years, some brand new stories from the last school year that have never been performed for the public, and even a really old story from the formative years of BOM (the author has likely graduated from high school by now). The stage is big, the stories are amazing, and there’s even a set! (Whoa.)

Please note that because of this very special TWG, there will be no regular Monday night TWG on July 20 or July 27. However, we will return to Mondays at the Neo-Futurist Theater on August 3.

Here’s the full listing of Theater On The Lake shows (scroll down a bit to see the BOM listings). We’re running Wednesday, July 22 through Saturday, July 25 at 7:30pm, and Sunday, July 26 at 6:30pm. Tickets are $17.50. The theater is at Fullerton and…well, the lake. You may call the Theater On The Lake Box Office at 312-742-7994 for ticket information.

Hope to see you there!
