We have been extremely fortunate for the last three years to have Dixie Uffelman as our Program Director.
(Dixie is second from the left)
The sadness at Dixie’s imminent departure from the office is, however, tempered by the excitement at having hired Elizabeth Levy as our new Program Director.
More after the jump!
Dixie has developed partnerships with schools and parks, worked to strengthen our educational programs, and been an outstanding lead teacher in many many classrooms. Sadly for us (though happily for her) she has accepted a position with our friends at The House Theatre of Chicago. We wish Dixie well, and are glad that she’s already agreed to continue teaching and performing with us.
Elizabeth has been a teaching artist and performer with Barrel of Monkeys since 2004, and is one of the company members who always goes above and beyond when it comes to helping out when we need an extra set of hands. She comes to the BOM staff from Steppenwolf, where she has been the Education Coordinator (and consequently has tons of experience working with teaching artists and school administrators). Elizabeth has already come up with some exciting ideas for next year, most notably working to expand our professional development efforts with the CPS teachers in the classrooms we serve.
Elizabeth is also an accomplished performer, and was seen most recently in Dog and Pony Theatre’s “As Told by the Vivian Girls” at Theater on the Lake.
Elizabeth officially joins the staff on August 1st, and I am super excited to share an office with her. I feel incredibly lucky that the people I work with every day are smart, funny, hard-working, and good company. Elizabeth is, as Dixie would say, “a delight and a pleasure” and will be an excellent addition to the office staff.
