A mailman came in and passed out papers and tickets telling them about the football game. They went to see the game. The game was at the fourth quarter. They saw a man on the ground crying and bloody – he was a football player named Big Boogie. They (the customers) stopped cheering and said “Why is this man sitting on the ground?” They found out the Bears lost by 47 points. They said “Boo! The Bears lost!”. The New York Giants got made because the customers said they didn’t win. Big Boogie felt sad. Mississippi

By Johnnie C., West Pullman Park Words at Play Program
Poems That's Weird, Grandma

Mississippi has animals
Elephants
Lions
Seals
I like it’s tv’s.
Lots of channels
I ate pancakes, sausages, eggs, bacon and mashed potatoes
It was warm, cold and hot
I listened to “50 cent” and Chris Brown
I just listened to it
It made me feel pretty good
My Aunt Julia and Grandma
Was there
Auntie Thelma was there
And Auntie Deloris
We drove there…
It took 12 hours…
I would go again.

Monica’s Special Christmas Eve

By Freda H, 4th Grade, South Loop Elementary School
Holidays Winter Holidays That's Weird, Grandma

Once upon a time there was a girl named Monica. Monica was in first grade and was very bad at geography. One day she received a letter from Santa. It said:

Dear Monica,

You are invited to a party at my workshop. On the night of Christmas Eve, a reindeer will pick you up. But, you have to tell the reindeer where to go.

Love,
Santa

PS. There is an indoor swimming pool which is pretty warm.

“Wow, I must pack warm clothes and a swimsuit,” Monica said. During the middle of Christmas Eve she heard a bell ringing. “That must be Santa’s reindeer,” Monica said. Monica dressed up and got onto a sleigh. “Now which way shall we go,” the reindeer asked. “My teacher told us to memorize South is up, East is left, North is down and West is right, so we have to go South which is up.” It took a long time to get to Santa’s workshop because Monica got all mixed up. When they finally arrived the party was already over. “I missed the party,” Monica sobbed. “I saved some toys and a piece of cake for you.” “Yay,” Monica cheered.

Old Kenzin was recently kicked out of his house and he was looking for a place to have fun.  He went to Antarctica to find a polar bear.  When he first came to Antarctica, he froze his feet. He couldn’t find a polar bear, so instead he found a snow fox.  The snow fox was tired because they had to walk so much so he started carrying him.  They found some sticks lying on the ground.  He picks them up and figures out that he can build a sled.  They sled all the way to San Diego and landed on the beach.  Then they spotted a yellow and red looking woman and they thought she was a hot dog because they were so hungry.  They tried to eat her and she said get off me!  He didn’t speak any English so he said “No comprende”.  They ended up dating
