That's Weird Grandma
TWG Weekly Update
There was a passionate cry from the cast to put a story back in the show that first graced the TWG stage in 2004.
It is the story of a disgruntled motorist who learns that sometimes, when it comes to auto mechanics, patience is the way.
I think we can all learn something from this fine story.
That is why I’m bringing it back. The story, of course, is
Eddie’s Rims.
The other new story this week invites us to witness the complex negotiations between Layla (a secret spy) and Will (a talking dog) as they must work together to recover a treasure chest from the bottom of the ocean.
WISH THEY COULD PLUG BP’S OIL PIPE WHILE THEY’RE DOWN THERE!!!
Whoa. Couldn’t resist.
Sometimes art does imitate life. Or is it the other way around?
Anyway, $2 off password is ‘Kool-Yummm’. Naturally.
See you there.
Running order is here…

School Shows
On Tuesday, we began adapting stories, and not only is there a monster truck and evil president twins in this show, we also kidnap Santa!!! Oh, and people brought snacks. Brennan called this the “snack corner.”

And….
There’s been a camera around during rehearsals… someone’s making a documentary…. shushhhh.

And…..
The show is directed by Luke, and the cast is Dixie, Laura, Meredith, Michelle, Zeke, Mari, Carly, Tim, Elizabeth, Brennan, Tai, Tom and (drum roll please)………… Annie Calhoun, in her first school show since she was cast in BOM! And, if that wasn’t enough! She wrote a hit song about a bass playing lady!

Go big or go home!

That's Weird Grandma
TWG Weekly Update
This new round of TWG opened with such a pleasing show (that was also a tad on the short side) that I decided not to take out ANY of the plays from last week. All those greats can be seen tonight.
Oh, but hang on. We got a new order of t-shirts in and…wow.
Attendees of tomorrow night’s will behold the largest selection of Barrel of Monkeys t-shirts with the new logo there has ever been. Over time, the supply will dwindle to the point where you are deliberating over the purchase of a 3XL orange t-shirt thinking, “I guess I could wear it as a night shirt?”. But be there tomorrow and you will have myriad colors and sizes to choose from.
I helped select the colors of the shirts. Unless you don’t like them, in which case the printer gave us the wrong colors.
But I think you’ll like them. At least ONE of the colors.
We also put two new stories in the show-
Superhero Story (my mom) - which is a beautiful song about a great mom in honor of Mother’s Day.
Long Lived the Two Friends- a rags to riches epic about two skydiving buddies.
The password this week is “parachute”.
“Parachute” uttered to Brad at the box office = $2 off admission.
See you there!
Full running order if you would like to…

School Shows
Hello every one
The Poetry Show is coming
Music
Props
Movement
Memorization.
Did you take note of my well placed line breaks?
Oh yeah, it’s on.
Ok, so I have a confession to make. I majored in creative writing in poetry in college. That’s no joke. My mom’s still mad. And I’m not a poet because a.) I was terrible at it b.) It made me obsess about rhyming things, which only reinforced the fact that I was TERRIBLE at it and C.) I was terrified of making all that famous poet money! But what writing poetry in college did was make me really love reading other people’s poetry. Because reading along with a poem as if you are writing it, speaking it, or painting it is a really cool feeling. You get to experience what it’s like to be a poet, to create images, to capture feelings, and maybe even to uncover truths, one word at a time. And that is what we get to do in the Poetry Show. Poems can pack so much meaning into such a small space that they can make you go “YES!” and “What?” at the same time. So you read it again, preferably out loud. At rehearsal, we read a lot of really good poems that unraveled in unexpected ways. Like this one:
Human Nature
Crazy
Feeling
When you sometimes when
You are happy
You get crazy
And flow up
So this isn’t
Real
-Joshua C. South Shore Cultural Center
I love this poem. This poem made me remember what it is like to be delirious with joy. And the last lines, I read them over and over again…is he saying that once I start to “Get crazy/ And flow up” that I can look down at all my bad day frustrations rooting me to the ground and see that they aren’t real? Or is he saying that this “Crazy/ Feeling” feels really good, and that it lifts you above it all—but only for awhile—because in the end it isn’t real ? Or both? AHHHHHH! POETRY!
Laura.

TWG Weekly Update
ALERT. I HAVE BEEN GIVEN NEW AUTHORITY TO INVENT A “PASSWORD” WHICH WILL SAVE YOU $2 AT THE BOX OFFICE ON MONDAY NIGHT.
READ THIS BLOG TO discover the password and to learn about our play.
Well, after resting on our laurels for 3 weeks, we are back in action Monday night.
SIX new stories are premiering in the show this week. Truthfully, four of them are brand new to TWG and two are making a comeback tour.
Having Curtis and Dixie in the show, I couldn’t resist bringing back an old classic- The Day I Thought a Man was a Monkey
The other classic tale coming back was inspired by the return to Chicago of company member Anthony Courser. The story to which I’m referring is also the password….
The Destroyer
Actually, the password is just “Destroyer”. But you can say “The Destroyer” and still get the $2 off at the box office. Either one.
We have a gorgeous and enthusiastic cast, we have some story gems and Chris Mathews is making his That’s Weird, Grandma debut!
So much fun to be had for EIGHT dollars. Destroyer.
Be there! By tickets here.
Full running order after the jump.
