One Day More

School Shows After School Program

Well friends, the Loyola Park cast has but one day left to pull off Monkey greatness.  Will they hit the mark?  Well, to know for sure, you’ll have to come to the show on Monday.  It’s going to be at Loyola Park, at 4:00, on Monday.  Which is also Valentine’s Day, if you’re in to that sort of thing.  But I digress.  I do want to give you a taste of the juicy stories that we have been tasked with adapting.  The Loyola Park Winter Show will feature a story about the effect the recent economic down-turn has had on the employment opportunities for under-the-bed monsters, as well as a story about an alien visiting a video-chat room.  The show will also feature a choose-your-own adventure story as well as a plethora of creation myths.  Ever wonder why T-Rex had short arms, or how giraffes got so tall?  Yeah?  Well we’ve got the answers!

I mentioned in the last posting that this cast has been working very hard, and now that I have figured out how to work my camera, I can provide photo documentation of the work.  Please enjoy the photos that I have provided.

Lastly, how many monkeys does it take to fix a car?  We don’t know either, but it’s definitely more than nine…

The New BOM Agreement

School Shows

In keeping with the recent tradition of rehearsing shows during historic, winter weather, the cast of the Loyola Park show has begun rehearsing during the week of single-digit temperatures.  The snow that fell during the first rehearsal set a new record for total snowfall in Chicago during the month of February – 26 inches.  (It should be noted that the vast majority of that fell during the CEA rehearsal process, but the record is cumulative.)  All of this weather led director, Lacy Campbell, to establish a new Monkey agreement: “No making fun of other people’s winter gear.”  The cast has done a nice job of following this, and all the other agreements, and deserves some Monkey-Bucks… Joe…?

After two days of excruciating labor, nearly every story has been adapted.  We’ll finish tonight, and then begin the difficult task of polishing each performance so that it does each writer’s work justice.  The level of awesomeness in each journal is magnificent, and the cast is doing its best to match it.  Loyola Park authors, you’ve set the bar quite high!

CEA and the Blizzard of 2011

Well my friends, as they say on the streets; “Old man winter was straight trippin’ yesterday.” One of the worse blizzards in Chicago’s history, resulted in the cancellation of rehearsal for Columbia Explorers. Lake Shore drive was shut down, The CTA Redline came to a stand still, and flight after flight at O’Hare’s International Airport were grounded because of hazardous conditions. Yes sir, the windy city took it on the chin last night.

Never the less, in a fit of instant cabin fever or maybe just an incredible desire to see the mammoth storm up close and personal, many a monkey (myself included) dared to venture into the frightful night. Just a few minutes at least, before returning back home, for hot chocolate, scary movies, and of course high lights on Sports Center.

But not even a monster blizzard can stop this intrepid band of actors. The ensemble’s resolve was stronger than ever, as we quickly made plans for an early rehearsal the next day. So IN YOUR FACE OLD MAN WINTER, da show must go on. Be safe out there yall, see ya tonight, and gooooo Monkeys!!!

The First week of rehearsal has come and gone, and man am I excited about this show. Meredith, our fearless director, really encouraged us to create very physical pieces that would read in the space; and our awesome ensemble did just that. With out tipping my hat, I’ll tell you now that the Tango number is some kind of fabulous, silly bands running a munk is absolutely horrifying, and the Candy Man/ Blood Mary Scene is too, too funny. Oh Yeah!

But don’t take my word for it…. Check out the show party people, it’s going to be great!!!! But before I schadatale, a Monkey’s blog just wouldn’t be a Monkey’s blog without a list of wacky things over heard at rehearsal.

“I’ve never seen a goat in a monkey show before, so I was real excited.” -Mere

“Also… my character has bees for a face.” -Philip

“Freeze, I want more beans.” -Mere

“Well thank you Bloody Mary and Candy Man.” - Diana

Good day to all. And Gooooo Monkeys!!!!!!

(Cough… Cough… Sniffle..Sniffle)

Great! First day of rehearsal for Columbia Explorers, and I find my self under the weather. However, upon hearing a fantastic argument by a germ, and their right to live, I came to the realization that they indeed have a much right to an exciting life as anyone else. And if it means being sick as a dog, while providing them a safe habor, so be it.

From a great tale of Simeone and Sperling playing magical saxsaphones on a beautiful cloud above New York City, a nice bean who becomes the star of Millenium Park, to Phillip “mega talent” Markle doing an amazing impersonation of Oprah; the kids of CEA definitely dove deep into their imaginations and wrote some fantastic, amazing stories.

One only wonders what day two holds in store. (Cough) Now if you would excuse me good people, my new found germie friends and I will take a short nap. Growing germs need their rest you know. Have a great day, and GOOOOOOO MONKEYS!!!!!!
