That's Weird Grandma TWG Weekly Update

This week’s “That’s Weird, Grandma” features a poem from the Barrel of Monkeys “Words at Play” poetry program, and a dialogue from Columbia Explorer’s Academy.  Both adaptations are performed WORD FOR WORD.

THE DUMPSTER by Kyle T & Angel H., Columbia Explorer’s Academy
Characters:  Waffleman, Chocolateman and Rotten Lemon.
Setting:  Alley
The End
WM: Where are we?
CM: (digging in trash) We are in a dumpster.
WM: (shaking) I am missing an arm.
CM: (yelling) Oh my god you’re missing an arm!
WM: You’re shorter, you’re missing a row.
CM: How do we get out!
WM: Who would throw out a chain saw?
RL: I’ve been here for years.
CM: Who said that?
WM: (looking around) Looks like an old lemon.
RL: (weirdly) There’s no way out.
RL: (weirdly) There’s no way out.
WM: But there’s a ladder!
CM: Let’s go already!
RL: Don’t go.
WM: Let’s go dude.
RL: I have candy.
WM: Chocolate man is chocolate.
CM: I’m milk chocolate!
The End

Untitled, (MY HEART IS BEST)
Abeer A, Berger Park
My heart is the best.  It helps me breathe.
I like it very much.
If it stops I won’t breathe.  I might die if it stops.
I would always like it if it does not stop.
That is a very bad thing
I like it very much
It is a thing I want to know: how it looks like
It would be a dream come true to see my heart
It would look so cool.
That is going to be my favorite part.
I would want to see my heart
I’ve been trying to see it for my whole life almost
That is why that is said
And I would want to do that very quickly
Because it is my favorite
Now that my heart is a superhero I see it
It is very gooey, it has water in it and dots too.
And but it tastes good
I like it very much
It tastes like strawberry
I love it very much
It saves all kinds of animals and animals only
Which I would like to be my friend always too
My heart is very smart
It pumps blood all through my body
It gives me air too
I love it very much
If I see it high I will give it a high five
Although it is my body, I will talk to it all the time
That is my final and last warning
The End

Morton School show!

School Shows

I’ve always been incredibly fond of outer space and cats, so rehearsing for Morton School’s show has been an absolute blast. We’ve got a lot of outer space, and a lot of cats. Other themes we’ve gotten to explore include sharks, birthday parties, body swapping, and houses that look like faces. Watching these amazing stories jump off of a page and morph into beautiful, funny, and inspiring pieces of theatre and music is one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen. I was a volunteer teacher this spring at Morton, and I’ve been blown away by all of the creativity and positive energy radiating from the classroom and the rehearsal room. Molly, our fantastic director, and the rest of the cast have been incredibly welcoming to me during this process, and I can’t wait to share this exciting experience with all the kids on Friday! I was actually so excited about everything that I forgot to take pictures, so here is a picture of outer space to tide you over.image

That's Weird Grandma TWG Weekly Update

Two stories brand new to the Grandma Stage tonight:

UNTITLED (LONG HAIR) By:  Stephanie O Loyola Park After School Program
I declare that I Stephanie Ovalle should stop having long hair because when I brush my hair I have way too many knots! So when I went to the hair salon and cut 12 inches of my hair the cutters said that is enough for the kids who need! So I gave my hair to the kids who needed.  The End

THE EVIL HOT DOG       By: Israel P., Columbia Explorer’s Academy
In the beginning Jack goes to his store and starts to make hotdogs. Then he went out to get fresh air. In the middle someone else was inside the building he poisens a hot dog. When Jack comes back inside jack gets hungry so he got a hotdog the one that the other persen poisoned. Then he became an evil zombie. At the end he found a note on a hotdog it said “Ha ha! I bet you changed into a zombie already. You will be a zombie forever because you ate that hotdog. Ha! Ha! From: Unknown
Then Jack goes intot he sewer because he doesn’t want to hurt anyone and he hasn’t been heard of again. Nobody ever even found the persen who poisoned jack. The end

A Bad Day…try Tacos!

That's Weird Grandma TWG Weekly Update

Join us tonight for two TWG classics!

Taco vs Squash by Jose P, Jared N, Jeremiah P, Matthew H, and Kymira S, Marquette Elementary
We believe that tacos are better than squash. Our first reason is that tacos have more delicious meaty flavor than squash. Our second reason is that tacos are crunchier than squash and eating crunchy things makes us feel good. Our third reason is that you can customize them, you can add vegetables, meat, whatever you want. Also, we think tacos would definitely beat squash in a fight or boxing match-the tacos are faster at punching. In conclusion, we believe that tacos are better than squash.  THE END

A Bad Day By Kevin V., 3rd Grade, Cleveland Elementary
Yesterday I went to my dad’s soccer game but they lost the game. They were in the finals but it had to end some time. I was sad my dad was sad my dad’s team was sad, like I said, it had to end some time.  The End.
