MY MINIONS MADE OF ICE CREAM HOUSES

School Shows

The week in review!

We started rehearsals for the Lincolnwood school show earlier this week, and these are some things that happened:

While adapting the story “Not a Good Fencing Life” we realized we were working on a Samuel Beckett short play. The story includes a nag of an old lady, people in trash cans, and a protagonist in a wheel chair. Was Beckett liberally “borrowing” ideas from Lincolnwood elementary to form his literary canon? You be the judge.

Caleb wrote an an incredible rock opera for “Knocked Out Story Stealer” that’s been stuck in my head for days, with a wicked awesome guitar solo by Zeke. In the story, Brandon, Lindsey, Steve, and myself are all minions made of ice cream houses, with carpets for tongues, and chairs for teeth. We also steal stories. IT IS SO MUCH FUN TO DO THIS.

Some people were born to play Shakespeare’s Hamlet, Miller’s Willy Loman, Beckett’s Vladimir,
and some people were born to play Justin Bieber.

Guess which one I fall into? Never say never.

Considered the Hamlet of BOM academics, I finally get to play the role so many others have cherished and will continue to over the years in “Road Trip to California.” I just hope I can live up to the potential of so many before me. I have to go do more character and text analysis now. (How do I recreate the depth and complexity of that sassy confidence?! You are an enigma, Beiber!)
