What have I done???
Posted by Matthew on January 3, 2010
Today in rehearsal Marla, Philip, and I adapted a story entitled “Famous Hot Dogs” by Daniel, a fourth grader at Trumbull.
Here’s the amazing story:
Once there was a man named George.
He went to where there was the famous hot dogs.
He ate one and it was delicious.
Have one!
And somehow, in the whirlwind of affirmation that is our adaptation process, I suggested that REAL hot dogs and REAL ketchup and mustard should be used in our staging and that the story should end with me covered in gobs of actual hot dogs and condiments. Clearly, it was my cold medicine talking.
Yet no one disagreed.
What have I done!?! Am I really going to be covered in ketchup and mustard on Friday morning of my own free will!!!! Ahhh!!!!!!
Stay tuned, gentle readers…

I will okay the use of real hot dogs, only if they are real Vienna Beef Dogs. The official Chicago Hot Dog. The Dog of the Chicago Cubs. The Dog of the Chicago Public School children.

Ketchup???
I understand the stage picture you are attempting to create and all - but the CPS kids won’t get it!
This is Chicago! We don’t put no ketchup on our hot dogs!?!?!?!

Sadly, the ketchup and mustard were nixed today.
But I will still be force fed a dozen or so hot dogs. That counts for something.
