What have I done???

School Shows

Today in rehearsal Marla, Philip, and I adapted a story entitled “Famous Hot Dogs” by Daniel, a fourth grader at Trumbull.
Here’s the amazing story:

Once there was a man named George.
He went to where there was the famous hot dogs.
He ate one and it was delicious.
Have one!

And somehow, in the whirlwind of affirmation that is our adaptation process, I suggested that REAL hot dogs and REAL ketchup and mustard should be used in our staging and that the story should end with me covered in gobs of actual hot dogs and condiments. Clearly, it was my cold medicine talking.

Yet no one disagreed.

What have I done!?! Am I really going to be covered in ketchup and mustard on Friday morning of my own free will!!!!  Ahhh!!!!!!

Stay tuned, gentle readers…

Happy New Year from the Monkeys!!

The show on the 28th was the same show as the one on the 21st. So our director, Oona, has taken this opportunity to put in FOUR new pieces!
They are:

My Happy Remember- Naudia remembers some inspiring advice from her grandfather in this heartwarming song.

Kool Yum- a hip-hop poem about everybody’s favorite artificial beverage!

A Bad Day- not to be confused with the classic cheerleading story that was in the show for over one year, this is about Kevin’s father’s soccer team’s near victory in the finals.

Mystery Glasses- Will the janitor help the girl find the missing glasses?!?!

Come see the show to find out!

Also, our last two shows have sold out, so you might want to make a reservation ahead of time at 312 409-1954 or buy tickets here and now!

Trumbull School Show—1st Rehearsal!!

Posted by Matthew on January 2, 2010

Hello my doves. It’s me. Miller.
And I am super excited to be a part of the Trumbull School show—our first of 2010!
I taught at the Trumbull School this fall with Elizabeth, Sam, Caleb, Laura McKenzie, and Lauren Vitz. The students were great and their stories are amazing!
We had our first rehearsal today and it was so exciting I had to take a nap afterwards. Seriously, it was that exciting. (Also, I have a cold. That may have also contributed to the napping.)
Here’s a picture of Sam and Marla from our first day of rehearsal!image

2009 Ending with a BANG

Posted by Amanda Farrar on December 28, 2009

Hey everybody!

Holy moly.  What an excellent 2009 for Barrel of Monkeys it has been.  And, because you are awesome, you are making even the last week of the year extraordinary!  We sold out the house at “That’s Weird, Grandma” last week (Sorry to the group of Monkey fans where weren’t able to make it inside!!), and we are on our way to selling out again tonight, so buy your tickets now or call the hotline and make reservations so we don’t have to see sad faces tonight.  Please, no sad faces.

Also!  We are delighted (absolutely delighted) to have the cost of what it takes to bring 48 stories from CPS students to life donated by our marvelous supporters in our “Sponsor a Story” campaign (mad props to Monkey fan Erik).  It’s not too late to give $10 to help bring a story like this one from Omar M., 3rd grade at Lafayette to life (see this story enacted TONIGHT):
