FOUR NEW STORIES hit the Grandma stage.

Join us Sunday at 2 or Monday at 8 to see these and more!

Untitled (Love Potion)
By Lily A, Lily C, Giovanni M, Lauren D,  Zachary B, Miles B, Lincolnwood Elementary
In the beginning Dr. Von Smelly was working on an evil potion that backfired and gave him a wedgie.  It made him angry.  He made a new potion that mixed and turned into an ugly lady who was in love with him.  She said “We gotta live in this box!”  They got in the box and she got sick….love sick.  He drank a love potion, left the box, and fell in love with a beautiful lady.  This made the ugly lady angry.  The potion inside her started to bluggle and she turned into a monster.  The monster said “I’m gonna get you!” But she was actually still in love.  He built a love machine that protected him and his love in a cave inside a truck.  The smelly monster lady still walks the earth to this day, looking for love.

Every one Get Married by Sade T, Brian, Eva S, Bailey G, Graham School
There was a girl named Rosanna.  She met a guy at school named Buck.  They call him Buck because he is a hunter who shoots Bucks (Deer).  One day Rosanna brought Buck home to meet her mom and Grandpa.  She also had a live deer.  Rosanna’s mom, Ashley, wanted to smack Buck upside the head with a vase, because he was obnoxious and he kills deer which makes Ashley upset and scared.  Grandpa just wants his applesauce.  Buck hates applesauce and throws it in the trash.  Grandpa hits Buck with his cane and says “Hey! I wanted that you young-timer!”  Buck had bought Rosanna a snake and her mom hated the snake.  The snake tries to eat the deer and their pet dog.  Rosanna marries Buck.  The mom marries the pet dog.  The snake marries the deer. And grandpa marries the applesauce.

The Party Girl Makes a Mistake by Nadia S, Grace M, Alec Cd, Amaya B, Sofia W, Lincolnwood Elementary
Character: Lilly-Jasmine, party girl
Setting: Library
Once Upon A Time there was a girl who liked to party.  Her name was Lilly-Jasmine.  She went to the library to look at some sleepover books to plan her sleepover party.  A big group of funny entertainers showed up at the library.  Lilly-Jasmine was [having?] time focusing on her research.  She was laughing at the funny jokes.  She thought the dancing was funny and crazy.  So she decided to take some pictures.  She joined their party.  They were throwing streamers everywhere and messing up the library.  Just then the librarians came back from their coffee break.  The funny partiers scattered just as they arrived.  Jasmine was changing and was blamed for the mess.  She got kicked out for a month.  Jasmine showed the librarians the pictures.  The librarians kept all the party gear behind a wall.  In the end Jasmine invited the crazy partiers to entertain at her sleepover.  The party was enthusiastic and awesome.  The parents were gone.  The End.

School Shows

Though we’re bummed that this show with them will be our last because CPS is closing the doors at Paderewski Academy, we’re not going to let that stop us from sending our friends at Paderewski out in style.  This is my second show as a member of the BOM Class of ‘13, and my first where I also taught at the school.  Knowing the students at Paderewski and having read their journals, I could not wait to tackle adapting these stories!  Ghosts! Martin Luther King Jr delivering his famous “don’t poison people” speech! Underwater shark football games! I knew we were going to have amazing stories to choose from, and I was relieved that when we got to the first rehearsal our lead teacher/cast mate Brandon had already narrowed things down so we had stories that represented all of our talented writers.

Some highlights from our first two rehearsals…

Imagine spooky haunted house sounds underscoring this one…

Rehearsals have started for the Loyola Park Spring Show 2013: Monkeys
and Kids Unite!

If you are a fan or a fangirl (slang taught to us by super-cool Loyola-
parker Isabella) of “Hunger Games” and “The Avengers” then you
will love the sci-fi thriller “Trapped” written by Siobhan. If you are
craving a PG “Saving Private Ryan” then Iris’ epic story, “A life full
of adventures in the war to save France” will hit the spot. And if
you dream of opening your own pastry shop, like various female
characters in romantic comedies, or you just love eating cookies, then
“Isabella’s bakery” written by the aforementioned Isabella is just the
treat you have been waiting for.

These are just three of the fabulously entertaining stories Monkeys,
Monkey teachers, volunteers, and kids are working on. All of the
stories in the Loyola Park Spring show are written by Loyola Park
kids, adapted by a collaborative team of kids and Monkeys, and
performed by this dynamic combo of kids and Monkeys!

Can’t wait,
Melissa
Volunteer Teacher

Two great new stories, and a bonus reading!!

I am not a leprechaun.  I’m a vampire.  I lied so I can be the hero.  There is a button in the hat that is magical when I poofed up the rainbow and unicorns I pushed a button in the hat that activated it.  It was not a real rainbow.  Then I got the nuts out the forest and put a bowl of nuts at the end of the rainbow.  Then at the end, I was the hero.  The End
